Singapore's Pledge

To me, the pledge is a statement that bounds all Singaporean. It is a statement which contains the hope of our ancestors and this hope is being passed down to us, for the sole purpose of fulfilling it.
The pledge reminds us of the inevitable truth of what Singapore faces: a multi-racial and religion country where everyone is different from each other. It is therefore important for everyone to understand the importance of tolerance for others Singapore being a small country has only its people as a resource. It is therefore important and vital for there to be compromise to achieve democracy and stability. Only with these achievements can Singapore hope to attract others and ensure economic growth.
Hence, to me, the pledge is more of a reminder to all about the importance of acceptance and understanding of others so as to attain a common goal for the good of others. This reminder is especially important for us, the students, for we are the leaders of Singapore, the leaders of the future. It also mean that we have to respect people of other nation , religions and culture.

Whenever I recite the pledge , I fell proud that I am a Singaporean as we this little red dot has proven that we can overcome any problems. We had faced our greatest problem the lack of water with courage and we now can show to the rest of the world the Singapore made NE Water. We will not be overcome by any problem or threats as long as we stand together as a nation, united as one.

While I recite the pledge , I feel that I am a loyal person . My promise towards Singapore is I will achieve something and make my family and my country proud of me. I will also grow up to be a successful person and work for Singapore , my homeland.

CYBER ADDICTION

The coming of the World Wide Web has brought a lot of new things. There is now what is called cyber fraud, cyber crime, cyber dating, and even cyber marriage. But I have never heard anyone talk about . This is a potentially dangerous condition with serious consequencest cyber addition yet, even though I think this kind of condition is now common.

Cyber addiction is when you get hooked to the web for unusually long hours and you find it very difficult to get up to do other things, you might be suffering from cyber addiction. An addiction is getting used to something to the extent that leads to negative consequences and if that thing is withdrawn, you feel inadequate.

Factors responsible for cyber addiction is the greatest cause of cyber addiction is hyperlinks. When you visit a web site for a particular purpose, you are presented with other things through links. These links are created in a way to attract the visitor to click on them. Then you get to that site and there are other hyperlinks, and the process continues; by the time you realize you have visited many sites.
There are a lot of things now being offered online. You can shop,
listen to music, watch movies and chat with friends. And the most interesting of it is that you can do even all this at the same time. This makes leaving the PC at times very difficult.
There are also pop-ups here and there. You are doing one thing and suddenly some window pops up and you follow and before you realize you are somewhere else.
Mailing lists and spam are other causes of cyber addition. If you joined a lot of lists, you may be receiving hundreds of mails a day. Reading all those mails might make you sit the whole day.

We have to stop cyber addiction fast. So just persuade your friend who is cyber addicted to stop it. You can help them by asking them to play out door activities with you.

ABOUT H1N1FLU

Influenza A virus subtype H1N1, also known as A(H1N1), is a subtype of influenza virus A and the most common cause of influenza (flu) in humans. Some strains of H1N1 are endemic in humans and cause a small fraction of all influenza-like illness and a large fraction of all seasonal influenza. H1N1 strains caused roughly half of all human flu infections in 2006.[1] Other strains of H1N1 are endemic in pigs (swine influenza) and in birds (avian influenza).

The new influenza A (H1N1) virus spreads from person-to-person, in the same way that seasonal influenza viruses spread. The main form of transmission is through the coughs or sneezes of an infected person. Infected droplets are released into the air and breathed in by others. However, these droplets do not remain in the air long and generally only affect people within two metres. It is also possible to get influenza by touching contaminated surfaces, and then touching your nose, mouth or eyes.

Wash your hands often-Wash with soap and water. Utilize hot water and scrub with soap for 30 seconds, including between fingers and under fingernails. Be sure to use a (paper) towel to turn off the faucet handles so as not to recontaminate your hands. The same applies to doorknobs. If you can't wash your hands, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol.

Cover coughs and sneezes -Teach your family to cover their nose and mouth when they cough or sneeze, dispose of the used tissues promptly, and wash their hands (or use alcohol-based hand sanitizer) immediately, before they contaminate other surfaces with infective secretions.
"Social distancing" Keep ill family members away from others in the home and at home unless they need medical care. If ill and you have to go out, wear a mask to catch coughs and sneezes and reduce the transmission of infective droplets to others. In general, do not share drinks or eating utensils. Do not share towels. Color coding towels for different family members can help reduce spread, too.

Seek medical care promptly if you become ill with flu-like symptoms - including fever, generalized aches, sore throat, cough, runny nose, vomiting, diarrhea, and lethargy. Take precautions if visiting your health care provider, including washing your hands frequently, using mask or cover over mouth and nose, and distancing yourself from others as much as possible to prevent further spread. Antiviral medicines are quite effective if taken within the first 48 hours of symptoms

I am always washing my hands with soap after going to toilet and before and after my meals.

I also cover my mouth and nose with a tissue paper when I sneeze and dispose it properly.

EARTH HOUR

I saw people chopping off trees , an elephant whose task was being cut off laying motionlessly on the ground , a few people were dead because of war , animals being killed because people wanted to make use off their skin to make money and black smoke coming out from the chimney. When I watch the movie the second time , I realise that the video was trying to tell us that we should save the earth from earth pollution and saving the animals. I did think of the video in a different way. During the first time when I watched , I thought that the video was for fun and laughter. But when I watched it the second time , I than realised what the video was trying to tell us.

From the video that I watched , the global issue images that were mentioned were that the place was very windy , dusty and gloomy. From this video , the singer was trying to tell us that we must save our own planet.

MY CAMP EXPERIENCE!!!

On the night before the camp, I packed my bag for tomorrow's camp. It took about two hours to pack it. Although I was excited and thrilled about the camp, I felt with a heavy heart feeling too as this was my first time to be away from my parents.

On the day of the camp, after assembly, all the primary 5 pupils were told to get into our groups and we were introduced to our instructors. I was lucky to be grouped with my friends, Nicole and Zhao Jun. Our instructor's name was Junice.

When we reached the camp site, the camp looked very creepy and spooky. We had our lunch at the camp site which after that we went to Sentosa to conduct an amazing race. It was about scandventure hunt of places. The rules of the race were that we were allowed to take two trips of buses and one ride of tram. The instructor would tell us the clues about the places and we would need to guess where the places were. We had a lot of fun during the race although we faced some argument that each of us was directing the ways to the destination. However at last we managed to work as a team and followed our leader for instruction.

On the second day of the camp, it was the day we did our high aliments and our camp fire dance. For the high aliments , there were a few stations. The stations were flying fox , abseiling , rock climbing and CRC. Among these four, I did the CRC. I had to walk on a string and there was a rope to secure me. When I did the CRC, whenever I looked down, I had a feeling that I was going to fall. I tried my best not to look down and to balance myself. For the camp fire dance , we were supposed to dance in front of a camp fire in a group. At first , we had difficulty choosing what song to dance with. Some were sugggesting the song which they liked. Finally, after a long time of discussion and compromising, we finally chose the song named "Love story". We practiced hard for the dance. I had a lot of fun and enjoyed the activities during the camp fire night.

On the last day of the camp , we were told to pack up our belongings. After packing our things , we were ready to set off back to school.

During the camp , I had learnt how to communicate better with my friends, built a good team work is important in accomplishing any tasks that we were assigned and through the camping that I had learnt to be more independent and care for my friends and family.

EARTH HOUR

Earth Hour is a global initiative by the World Wide Fund for Nature to raise awareness of climate change. It is the second year that Earth Hour is being observed in Singapore. It is held on 28th March 2009 from 8.30 pm - 9.30 pm.
I feel that this event is to encouraged to turn all of their nonessential lights off for one hour, starting at 8:30 PM. The event is also designed to draw attention to the issue of wasted electricity, and to point out that small actions can make a significant difference in electricity consumption. On that day , I thought off offing all the lights, but I have not finish my homework , so I cannot off the lights and take part in this event.
The event also promotes the use of energy efficient lighting and policies in businesses which encourage energy efficiency. The goal of Earth Hour is to connect people with the issue of global warming on an immediate level, showing them how they can make a difference. Participating in Earth Hour is very easy, making the event simple to organize for communities which want to support it.
During earth hour , everybody will off the lights for one hour. During earth hour , my family and I can daze at the stars in the sky, lit a few candles and play boardgames and lit candles and joke around.
The carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases that we produce are naturally trapped by the ozone layer to keep the planet warm and suitable for us to live on. But "by burning fossil fuels such as coal, gas, oil and clearing forests" (www.climatecrisis.net) more and more carbon dioxide is being trapped, heating up our world more than normal.
So by reducing the carbon dioxide we put out into the earth we will be reducing the amount of carbon dioxide trapped by our atmosphere.

PASSION FOR LEARNING

Passion for learning is about showing interest in whatever things that we learnt. People should have passion in learning to improve, upgrade and to have a live long learning. I read an article of a man who studied his bachelor degree at his age of sixty-three years old at National University of Singapore. He knew that during this tough period of economic crisis, he had to continue to upgrade his knowledge and skills to maintain employable status. I will need to have passion for learning to equip and improve myself for future development. I will read more, study in effective way and work more harder on those subject which I am weak at.
